PID (Potential Induced Degradation) is a phenomenon whereby the electrical output of a solar module declines due to the effect of high temperatures, high humidity, and high system voltage. The PID Test is used to simulate such adverse environments. The standard test adopted by UL Laboratory requires solar modules to be subjected to maximum system voltage for 48 hours at a temperature of 50 and a humidity of 85%. Einnova-Solarline, though, conducts the same test under even more severe conditions, running the maximum system voltage for 120 hours at a temperature of 85 and a humidity of 85%.

Solar modules connected to electrodes are placed in a hot and humid environment and monitored for a decline in their electrical output.
